The True Vine

Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser” (John 15:1). In that way, the Christian life is a supernatural life. It flows from an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ who is the Source of life. 

 

Jesus used the perfect object lesson to illustrate this truth by showing how a branch is intimately connected to a vine. The abundant life is possible only as we stay intimately connected to Jesus who is the true vine. 

 

A vine exists for the sole purpose of producing grapes. That’s why Jesus went on to say, “Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (v. 5).
