The Art of Christmas in Fra Angelico’s Annunciation

Throughout church history, beauty and art have helped bring God’s story to life—especially the Christmas story. The art of Christmas invites us to see the Nativity through brushstrokes and color choreographed by the masters of paint and canvas.

For example, in Fra Angelico’s Annunciation, a simple moment becomes sacred—a young woman, arms crossed in submission, receives heaven’s most profound message.

Gabriel’s visit to Mary in Luke 1:26-38 wasn’t just an angelic encounter—it was the beginning of everything changing. The virgin birth, the majesty of the Christ Child, and Mary’s humble response point us to the miracle of God entering our world. Combining biblical art and holy Scripture helps us make room in our hearts for the Christ child as we celebrate our Savior’s birth.
