It’s known as the law of reciprocity—the idea that if you do something for someone, they will likely do something for you in return. In other words, what goes around comes around.

The Bible frequently expresses this universal law. Examples include the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Also, “give, and it will be given to you” (Luke 6:33), and “judge not, that you be not judged” (Matthew 7:1). Here’s another one from Jesus’s Beatitudes: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy” (Matthew 5:7).

I call that last one “the golden rule of happiness.” Truly blessed and supremely happy is the person who receives God’s mercy. Are you a merciful person? Remember, what goes around comes around.
