May the Real Force Be with You
What do Luke Skywalker, Hans Solo, and Princess Leia have in common with Greek philosophers and Christmas? More than you imagine.
Like the Greeks, who mused about something called the Logos, Skywalker and his pals believe the power that created and sustains the universe is an impersonal force, saying to one another, “May the force be with you.”
However, the Apostle John exploded ten tons of theological dynamite upon Greek philosophy and future Star Wars enthusiasts when he wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ... And the Word became flesh and dwelled among us” (John 1:1, 14).
John put flesh and blood on the Logos [Word] and pointed his sophisticated audience of Jews and Greeks to a revolutionary rabbi named Jesus of Nazareth, who had turned the world upside down. May the real force be with you this Christmas.
