Imagine yourself in a dark cave. When I say dark, I mean completely blackened out. No light. No shadows. Not even a flicker of something luminous like a candle or a cell phone. Nothing bright, florescent, lucent, or glowing. Think of midnight without any moon or stars.

I was once in a place like that with a group of people touring some natural wonders far beneath the surface of the earth. When our tour guide turned out the lights, an eerie feeling crept over me. That’s when I thought of planet earth darkened by sin and Jesus who declared, “I AM the light of the world ”(John 8).

The Bible says, “In him was life, and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4).
