Nobody displayed a greater passion for prayer than Jesus of Nazareth. The four gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—show us how prayer was a vital aspect of the Savior’s life and ministry. For example, Jesus prayed,

  • Early in the morning (Mark 1:35)
  • While under stress (Matthew 26:36-46)
  • During His baptism (Luke 3:21-22)
  • Before eating (Matthew 14:19)
  • For His disciples (John 17)
  • Alone and with His disciples (Luke 9:18, 21-22)
  • All night when choosing His disciples (Luke 6:12-13)
  • When weary on a mountaintop (Mark 6:46)

Jesus also taught his disciples to pray in response to their request, “Lord, teach us to pray.” The disciples must have seen and heard something in the Savior’s prayer life that highlighted their own deficit in prayer. Do you have a passion for prayer?
