“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Patriotic Christian Americans often recite these powerful words on Independence Day and on the National Day of Prayer, begging the Lord to heal our land, and rightly so.

Though Israel had a unique relationship with God in the Old Testament, the basic truth found in Second Chronicles 7:14 is something we should remember and respond to every day of the year. It is always good for us to confess our sins to God, practice repentance, and pray with humility.
