"

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise." King David's heartfelt words from Psalm 51 remind us of the importance of expressing deep sorrow for our sins.

Is your heart broken, truly crushed by the weight of your own transgressions? Are you genuinely sorry for your sins? Is your heart contrite? If so, you're closer to God than you realize. Godly sorrow that leads to true repentance will also help you find your happy place.

There can be no rejoicing or comfort until our hearts ache over our sins. That's why Jesus said, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" (Matthew 5:7).
