As a young boy growing up in the church, I learned to sing a simple chorus that went like this:

God is so good,

God is so good,

God is so good,

He's so good to me

I wonder what a teenage boy named Joseph would have though about that song when his jealous brothers threw him into a pit and then sold him into slavery. What’s so good about God when bad things like that happen in your life?

Joseph’s circumstances went from bad to worse before things got better, and many years passed. But eventually he was reunited with his family and was able to say, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).
