“When you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). That’s how Moses instructed a new generation of Hebrew parents to teach their children the Lord’s commandments.

Cathryn and I call it “drive-time parenting” and it’s not as difficult as it sounds. The idea is to look for natural opportunities to have a spiritual dialogue with your kids. Take full advantage of the teachable moments. Speak God’s truth into the everyday conversations of life.

The rhythmic prose Moses uses pictures this happening at the start and end of each day, plus as opportunities present themselves throughout the day. By God’s grace, Christian parents really can do this!
