Is seeing believing or is believing seeing? In the popular Christmas movie called The Santa Clause starring Tim Allen, elf Judy reminds Scott Calvin that believing is seeing. To say it another way: As Christians, we walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).

The apostle John, who penned The Gospel According to John, and elf Judy might not agree on the North Pole or flying reindeer, but they certainly agree on the idea that belief always precedes sight. We see what we believe if what we believe is true.

John concludes his gospel with these words: “But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (20:31).
