If you’re not prepared for it, an angry, red-faced Jesus running through the temple with a “whip of chords” in his hands is a bit unsettling, especially if you’re used to Sunday school pictures of the Savior found frolicking in the fields with the ewe lambs.

There’s something about the temple-cleansing scene that doesn’t align with the usual air-brushed images of Jesus. Did Jesus lose control? Did He have an anger problem? Or was this merely the zeal of the Lord on display?

“Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers” (Mark 11:17). A passion for prayer consumed Jesus. Does it consume you?
