Proverbs says, “Hear, O sons, a father’s instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight. . . . Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth” (4:1-5).

A dad’s godly advice to his kids is valuable beyond estimation. But delivering it in a way that our sons and daughters hear us is not as easy as it sounds. Have you ever started a conversation with “when I was your age” and suddenly lost your audience?

Instead, look for those teachable moments in your kid’s lives. Timing is everything. And be careful about turning an important life lesson into a lecture that makes your son’s eyes glaze over.
