“Because I have called and you refused to listen . . . I will mock when terror strikes you, when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind” (Proverbs 1:24-27).

Those are sobering words from the Old Testament book of Proverbs. But when we mock the truth like a scorner, God mocks us. He laughs when terror and calamity arrives as His way of saying, “I told you so!” He knows full well the sad, inescapable consequences of ignoring His wise counsel.

There’s the kind of laughter that’s jeering and full of ridicule. When the nations rage and the rulers take their counsel against the Lord, “he who sits in the heavens laughs” (Psalm 2).
