Jesus made clear the connection between an intimate relationship with Him and obedience when he said, “If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love” (John 15:10).

In the Old Testament, King Saul learned the hard way that obedience is better than sacrifice. After defeating the Amalekites, he disobeyed the Lord and kept some of the livestock for himself. He justified his actions by sacrificing some of the sheep.

The prophet Samuel rebuked Saul by saying, “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:23). Are you walking in obedience to Jesus and His commands?
