The late pastor and Bible expositor Harry Ironside said, “When God is going to do some great thing, He moves the hearts of people to pray.” This was certainly true prior to the coming of the Holy Spirit and the explosive birth of the church in Acts chapter 2.

Pregnant with expectation, the early followers of Jesus prayed in the upper room. They model for us how to pray and wait on God in faith, for as long as it takes to receive the answer.

Never underestimate the power of a praying church. We can always do more for God after we have prayed, but we should never do more until we have prayed.
