The Absolute Sovereignty of God

George Washington once wrote to Alexander Hamilton that if a foreign power can tell America “what we shall do, and what we shall not do, we have Independence yet to seek, and have contended hitherto for very little.” 

 

Washington and the other Founders like him were very smart men. In 1776, revolutionaries believed in, fought for, and achieved the independence that sovereignty requires.

 

As for the sovereignty of God, there is nothing in all of God’s creation that shall tell Him what He shall do or what He shall not do. God is completely independent of His creation and absolutely sovereign, even over the nations of the earth that declare their geopolitical sovereignty.
