The word of God plays a central role in all revivals and spiritual awakenings. What happened on the Day of Pentecost two thousand years ago is a reminder of that. In Acts 2, the early followers of Jesus were praying, the Holy Spirit came in tongues of fire, and Peter preached the word of God. All three contributed to the powerful outbreak of spiritual revival.

Never underestimate the importance of the word of God in revival. When God revives His people, He strengthens our relationship to both the word of God and the God of the word.

An Old Testament revivalist named Isaiah understood this well when he wrote, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever” (Isaiah 40:9).
