There's a lot of chatter these days on talk radio and 24-hour cable news. Everyone seems to be talking. But James says, "Let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger" (James 1:19).

His practical words remind us that we should probably listen twice as much as we speak. Are you quick to hear? Are you listening to God?

Hearing God's still, small voice amidst the cacophony of loud voices in our world today is difficult. It first means we have to slow down our own speech. We can't talk and listen at the same time. Nor can we hear God when we allow anger to simultaneously clog up our hearts.
