Every business owner knows that growth, though desired, brings its own set of problems. Rapid growth reveals problems deep in the organization related to people, processes, and priorities.

What’s true in business is also true in the church. The early church grew rapidly, but then a problem arose among the Greek widows that threatened the apostle’s focus on their real priorities of prayer and the preaching of God’s word. To serve or not to serve the widows?

The apostles put first things first by delegating the responsibility for serving widows to “seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom.” We know them as the first deacons (Acts 6:1-6). Are you helping your pastor put first things first?
