The dictionary defines perseverance as "steady persistence in a course of action." Synonyms include doggedness, steadfastness, and tenacity. In the New Testament, the Greek word is hupomone and it describes the person who is never swayed from his purpose by even the greatest trials.

James says, "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him" (James 1:12).

Where do you need some hupomone today? Do you need financial perseverance in a tough economy, intellectual perseverance as the semester rolls on, or relational perseverance in a difficult marriage? Remember this: The testing of your faith produces endurance.
