Picture the apostle Peter sitting on a rooftop in Joppa waiting for lunch after a time of mid-day prayer. Suddenly, “He fell into a trance and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth. In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air” (Acts 10:10-12).

A voice from heaven told Peter to rise, kill and eat the animals, something a devout Jew would never do. At first he objected. It three times before Peter understood.

Jesus said, “Make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). It took a dramatic vision from heaven for Peter to understand that the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ was also for the Gentiles.
