“For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:1). Those words from the apostle Paul to the Corinthians underscore a singular truth: there is nothing more central to the Christian faith than the cross of Jesus Christ.

When I say nothing, I mean nothing. A great speech isn’t more important. A wise word isn’t more important, nor is a friendly greeting or hip-hop music in the church. Your self-esteem is certainly not more important than the preaching of the cross of Christ.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down. I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it some day for a crown.
