I grew up in the heartland of America, not far from those amber waves of grain. As a homegrown Indiana Hoosier, I dribbled the basketball, shot hoops in my driveway, played Little League baseball, and slapped hockey pucks on Links Lake during the cold winter. My dad also taught me how to fish. Well, he tried.

I was always more of an athlete than a sportsman. Hunting and fishing was not my thing and still isn’t. But as one pastor who loves angling reminds me, “Fishing is a biblical sport.”

Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Are you a fisher of men or just a keeper of the aquarium?
