Studying the Jesus way to pray feels like we are skipping across glorious mountain peaks in stunning Colorado. After we ascend the glory of God by hallowing His name, we skip from “give us” to “forgive us.”

Then, we skip two more times, from “forgive us” to “lead us” and from “lead us” to “deliver us.” Jesus says, “Pray then like this … and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

The words “temptation” and “evil” point to a dark shadow that looms across the entire mountain range of our Christian experience. Prayer is how we engage in spiritual warfare. We must pray for divine protection because we live in a sinful, fallen world. The evil one and his demonic army lurk all around us.
